About

Mather Campground is the largest campground at Grand Canyon National Park and the only one located within Grand Canyon Village on the South Rim. Named after Stephen Mather, the first director of the National Park Service, the 327-site campground sits at approximately 7,000 feet beneath a canopy of ponderosa pine, pinyon, and juniper trees. The campground lies one mile from the canyon rim and provides access to the Greenway paved trail for walking and biking, which connects to scenic overlooks and the Visitor Center. The facility operates year-round, with reservations available up to six months in advance through Recreation.gov during peak season (March 1 through November 30). Each site accommodates up to six people and three tents, with two standard vehicles permitted. Sites include a fire ring with cooking grate, picnic table, and parking space. Flush toilets and drinking water spigots are located throughout the campground. Generator use is restricted to 7-9am and 6-8pm, with Pine Loop (sites 265-319) designated generator-free during peak season. Camper Services, located adjacent to the campground at Market Plaza, provides paid showers and laundry plus a free dump station and potable water fill station for RVs. The Canyon Village Market and Deli is a short walk away. The park's free shuttle system stops at the campground, providing access to trailheads for Bright Angel and South Kaibab trails as well as rim overlooks, museums, and other South Rim destinations.
