About

Wawona Campground occupies a forested setting of ponderosa pine, incense-cedar, and white fir along the gentle South Fork Merced River in the southern reaches of Yosemite National Park. At 4,000 feet elevation and 27 miles from Yosemite Valley, it offers a quieter alternative to the busier valley campgrounds while providing excellent access to some of Yosemite's most significant attractions. The Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias lies just four miles away, featuring ancient trees like the Grizzly Giant and California Tunnel Tree. The Pioneer Yosemite History Center in nearby Wawona showcases historic park structures. Local trails include Wawona Meadow Loop, Chilnualna Falls, and Alder Creek. The campground's 95 sites are distributed across three loops (A, B, C) with paved roads and parking spurs. Each campsite includes a picnic table, fire ring, and bear-proof food storage locker. Facilities include flush toilets year-round and potable water. A seasonal dump station operates during summer months. Wawona village offers a hotel, visitor center, and market approximately one mile south.
